ABOUT ME

David Allen Coester

A native of the Commonwealth of Virginia, David Allen Coester began playing the guitar when he was a teenager and soon thereafter became a member of a high-school rock-and-roll band. Later, when introduced to classical guitar he completely altered his musical direction, and he now specializes in classical music. Mr. Coester earned both Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from Manhattan School of Music in New York City. Since then he has continued music studies with the well-known organist-pedagogue Walter Hilse, emphasizing 17th- and 18th-century counterpoint. Currently living in Ithaca, New York he recently was a member of the music faculty of the Crestwood Music Education Center in Westchester County. He was invited to give master classes and perform recitals at the Nayhehol International Music Festival in Seoul, South Korea. Mr. Coester's playing has always covered a wide range of musical interests, but these days he is especially committed to 20th-century repertoire and to the music of J. S. Bach. Some of his recent public appearances include recitals at the Fredonia Opera House in Fredonia New York, Corcoran Gallery in Washington, D. C., the Basilica of San Clemente in Rome, Italy, and the Seoul Arts Center in Korea. David currently teaches private guitar lessons at his Fall Creek Guitar Studio in Ithaca, New York.
